Sounds from the Coast: The Erskine Morris Home Recordings Archive

Montreal, Québec

Erskine Morris (1913-1997) was a fiddler from Douglastown in Quebec's Gaspé region. At 10, he began playing fiddle, learning from his mother's (Beatrice Fortin) lilting. He learned an extensive local repertoire from two brothers and elderly neighbours, Joe and Charlie Drody. Following the Second World War, he relocated to the Montreal area. In the late 1970s, he retired to Cambridge, Ontario.
